1)about Ginkakuji-temple
Ginkakuji-temple (Silver Pavilion) is a Zen temple along Kyoto’s eastern mountains (Higashiyama).
In 1482, shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa built his retirement villa on the grounds of today’s temple,
modeling it after Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion), his grandfather’s retirement villa at the base of Kyoto’s northern mountains (Kitayama).
The villa was changed into a Zen temple after Yoshimasa’s death in 1490.

Ginkakuji-temple consists of the Silver Pavilion,
other temple buildings, a beautiful moss garden and a Japanese sand garden.
We can enjoy walking along a circular route around its grounds,
from which the gardens and buildings can be viewed.
1)Kougetsudai（向月台）
Kougetsudai is one of the symbol of Ginkakuji-temple.
The height of Kougetsudai is 180cm,(5.9feet) made of dry sand.
It is maintained by staff of Ginkakuji-temple by Everyday.
It is said that ancient people enjoyed sitting on Kougetsudai to watch moon.
2)Please Don’t miss the observation deck in Ginkauji-temple
In Ginkakuji-temple, there is an observation deck in the north side of the temple.
I really recommend you visit this observation deck.
We can see the good Kyoto view from this deck.

③Easiest way to Ginkakuji-temple(Silver Pavilion) from Kyoto station
Easiest way to Ginkakuji-temple from Kyoto station is going by bus.
1)Access
bus number :5, 17 or 100 from Kyoto Station.
It takes about 35-40 minutes, from Kyoto station.
